The Showrunner Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to avoid both.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Has Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren’t being guided by public opinion, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
