The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the newest animated series by Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

Personally, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
