The network's Premier New Show of This Year Gets a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often defined by cynicism, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and supported its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
