Putin Vows Uninterrupted Energy Supplies to the Indian Nation in Defiance of Washington Sanctions

During a unambiguous message to Western nations, President Vladimir Putin informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Russia is prepared to provide “unbroken” supplies of energy resources to India. These remarks came when Putin and Modi met in Delhi and affirmed their partnership were “resistant to external pressure.”

A Statement Aimed at the West

Putin's comments, made on Friday, seemed to be a pointed rebuke at western countries, that have tried to compel New Delhi into scaling back its close links with Moscow. This comes follows previous Washington's moves, including the introduction of trade penalties against Indian goods due to its acquisition of Moscow's energy exports.

“Our nation is a reliable source of oil and gas and all needed for the advancement of India’s energy sector,” Putin remarked. “Russia is prepared to keep ensuring the steady supply of fuel for the fast-expanding Indian economy.”

Prime Minister Modi, while not naming energy explicitly, supported the focus by saying that “a stable energy base has been a key and important cornerstone of the India-Russia alliance.”

Questioning Washington's Stance

Prior to the summit, during a television interview, Putin had questioned US interference over India's oil imports. He argued, “Should America can claim the privilege to buy our atomic materials, then why can't India enjoy the equivalent access?”

Putin's arrival was his first journey to India following the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, and Moscow and Delhi made a clear attempt to display that the bond between the two leaders was undisturbed.

A Warm Greeting

In a unusual move, Prime Minister Modi met Putin upon his arrival. The two exchanged a hearty embrace as old friends before holding a one-on-one meal the night before the summit.

Modi referred to India's alliance with Russia as “a beacon” and noted it was “founded on reciprocal esteem and deep trust.”

Strengthening Strategic Ties

The bilateral summit produced several important deals in the fields of military and economic cooperation. A cornerstone agreement was the completion of an economic cooperation programme that runs to 2030, which targets to increase twofold commerce to $100bn per year by the 2030 deadline.

Additionally pledged to reshape their defence ties. Even as Russia continues to be India's largest exporter of arms, the volume has reduced in recent years as India works to widen its supply base.

Their communique stressed plans for the joint production of advanced military systems, though direct reference of systems like the fifth-generation aircraft were not made.

Overall, both nations affirmed that during the “ongoing challenging, tense, and volatile geopolitical situation, Russian-Indian ties remain resilient to outside forces.”
