American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth time in her last five World Cup competitions. The 41-year-old, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result. Impressive Performance in the French Alps Competing at the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot. "I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough." This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill race on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement Vonn ended her career in early 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement. With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are highly promising. She boasts one gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the next Olympics. "When we get to Cortina, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed. Chasing More Titles Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has won over a career spanning 20 years. She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table. This season's World Cup campaign features a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on 21 March 2026.
