Blasts and Low-Altitude Aircraft Reported in Venezuela's Capital City Caracas

Witness testimonies circulated of numerous blasts and the sound of low-flying aircraft in the Venezuelan capital in the small hours of the weekend. This event has prompted claims from the Venezuelan government and demands for international scrutiny.

Caracas Blames US of Attack

The socialist regime has condemned the United States of an act of "imperialist aggression," stating that ex- President Donald Trump supposedly ordered attacks against the South American country. In an official declaration, the government stated that attacks had hit the capital and three other states: Miranda, La Guaira state, and Aragua state.

"The only objective of this attack is to gain control of Venezuela's strategic resources, notably its crude oil and mineral wealth," the statement said.

Venezuelan officials called on the international community to censure the operations, which it labeled a "flagrant violation of international norms" that placed millions of civilians in peril.

Accounts of Explosions and Defense Sites Targeted

Eyewitnesses spoke of hearing at least multiple powerful blasts around 2 a.m. local time. Residents in different neighborhoods allegedly hurried into the open.

"Everything shook. This is terrifying. We experienced explosions and planes in the area," commented one witness.

Plumes of smoke was reported rising from major defense sites in Caracas: the La Carlota airbase airfield and the Fuerte Tiuna base military base, where leader Maduro is believed to reside.

International Response

The leader of neighboring Colombia, wrote on a social platform that "At this moment they are striking Venezuela... attacking it with rockets." He requested an immediate meeting of the UN Security Council.

Colombia, which recently became a member of the UNSC, stated it would activate security plans at its shared border with its neighbor.

Preceding Events

These alleged strikes follow a months-long military buildup by the Trump administration against the Venezuelan regime. Since August, authorities reported a substantial American military presence off the country's northern coast and a series of strikes on boats linked to narco-trafficking.

The government has announced "a state of external disturbance" and ordered all national defense protocols to be activated. It has also summoned its citizens to mobilize and "denounce this foreign attack."

The White House and the US Department of Defense have not publicly addressed inquiries for a statement regarding the reports.
