The co-founders behind the well-known frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has claimed how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the introduction of an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, who co-founded the company with his partner, announced how he will personally create this new product within an individual series highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking out about.

Longstanding Dispute Between Creators and Corporate Owner

The recent development intensifies the ongoing tension between the internationally recognized ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the UK-based packaged goods corporation which acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders have asserted how Unilever along with their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked their company from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Flavor becoming an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen revealed via social media how he's developing a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, requesting consumer ideas regarding naming options and additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen declared in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for permanent peace in Palestine and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has emerged as a symbol of support for the Palestinian people because of its colors, that closely resemble those of the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism plus Current Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in territories under Israeli control, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thus allowing continued sales in disputed territories.

This upcoming product line is being developed under Ben's Best, the activist dessert company that was first created several years back to support former political contender Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Shifts plus Upcoming Plans

The founder stated that he plans to create other frozen dessert varieties that address concerns that the company was silenced from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

The announcement comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at the company recently, after many years with the organization, mentioning worries regarding how its independence was compromised after Unilever's decision to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen commented how "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to keep working inside the company to fight for its independence ensuring that it can fulfill the social mission, the values that established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he told journalists.
