Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located many other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism made him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
