Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. “This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office. “If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.” This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House. The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year. A New Life Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement. “The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message. “It embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.” Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
